So, as to avoid this misconception she changed her name to MacLaine. After that, she worked as a chorus member in the show- The Pajama Game. After this show she was recognized by other producers and got the main role for Can- Can. But during its shooting she was hurt and therefore she has to take leave for few months.

But after that Shirley MacLean Beaty continued with many films like Around The World in 80 Days and Hot Spell. Her role in the movie Some Came Running is considered to be the most challenging role of her career.
