It was the role he played in the gladiator that made him famous. He was playing the role of general Maximus decimus meridius. This film won him an academy award for the best actor, an empire award for the best actor, a broadcast film critics association award for best actor and London film critics circle award for best actor.Russell has also won seven nominations for the insider film and five awards for this same film. He was involved in an on and off relationship with Danielle spencer. They got married on April 7, 2003. They both have two sons Tennyson spencer Crowe and Charles spencer Crowe. Russell was also involved in a relationship with MegRyan in 2000.
