Werner Herzog Stipetić was born on 5 September 1942. He is popularly known as Werner Herzog. Werner is a German film director, screenwriter, producer, an actor; and an opera director. He is said to be one of the greatest figures of the New German Cinema. He was born to a German father, Dietrich Herzog, and a Croatian mother, Elizabeth Stipetić, in Munich. The actor and his mother were abandoned by his father when he was still in his early youth. He has married three times and has three children. Asides from using professional actors Werner is also known to use people from the locality in which he is shooting. More so in his documentaries. His first award was for his film “Silver Bear Extraordinary Prize of the Jury” for his first feature film “Signs of Life”. He has also won the best director award for “Fitzcarraldo” during the 1982 Cannes Film Festival.
